I love Marina and The Diamonds. I can’t wait for her debut album, The Family Jewels, to come out in Feb.
SHAMPAIN - MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS Marina continues to make waves with singles from “The Family Jewels”. This one is one of my favorites, with the epic misspelling of champagne, a catchy hook, and how she lets us know that there are such things as zombies - but they’re just girls feeling “celestial.” Thriller.
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS - FEAR AND LOATHING
Here’s a fantastic new one by Marina and The Diamonds that seems like it’ll be part of a series called Electra Heart:The Start. The next video supposedly comes out next Monday. I imagine this will be either an album or an EP. Very exciting.
According to Marina, “Electra Heart embodies the lies, illusions and death of an American Dream.” and she’s certainly shattered during her makeover in the Fear and Loathing video - this is an interesting direction. The idea of the American Dream continues the American Queen concept from her song “Hollywood.” Rather than simply just economic success, Marina’s take on the American Dream is about perceived perfection and beauty, which seems to be the main theme in this segment.
Can’t wait to see what’s next.
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS - RADIOACTIVE (Part Two)
Marina’s done it again and with a more heavily electronic sound. A shift I welcome completely. The video is lovely and I really do like her as “Electra Heart”. The record is released Oct. 3. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS - RADIOACTIVE (ACOUSTIC)
The acoustic version of Marina’s bombastic first single from Electra Heart is stunning. The synth-heavy album version is an absolute triumph in showing pop music doesn’t have to be strictly about DJs and dancefloors. This acoustic version lets the listener melt to the sound of Marina’s sweet and powerful voice while paying close attention to the song’s above-par pop ballad lyrics.
Take that, Lady Gaga. (And you know how much love I have for the Monster matriarch.)
The first televised performance of “Radioactive” was great. I kind of wish the studio version of the song had the acoustic intro that this performance has; it certainly gives the song some extra oomph (as if it needed any.) And how amazing does Marina look in that wig?
Though, I’m not even going to lie - I’m having Shakira flashbacks seeing her as a blonde.
Come out already, Electra Heart.
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS - STARRING ROLE
A new leak from the forthcoming album, Electra Heart , which is apparently due in Feb. this track deals with heartbreak; it also rings really true which means she’s either really good at creating compelling songs without living them or she’s just been through a pretty crap relationship. Either way, it’s pop gold.
